David Perron Cleared for Contact

David Perron

David Perron has taken another major step in his road to recovery. As of today, Perron has been cleared for contact in practice and will now be viewed as a regular player during the team’s training sessions. So long red no-contact jersey, Perron is back as reported by Lou Korac.

Perron has been practicing with the team for some time now but up until today he had been required to wear a bright red no-contact jersey. Today, Perron sported a gold jersey, indicating that he has been cleared for contact.

While this is a monumental step for Perron on his journey back to 100% health, it’s what happens now that he has been cleared for contact that will be the ultimate turning point. How will Perron’s body, specifically his head, handle a jarring hit into the boards? Will there be a relapse?

As I mentioned on Twitter, I wouldn’t want to be the first teammate to deliver a crushing hit to Perron for fear of what might happen.

As for Perron, while he has been cleared for contact in practice he still has a ways to go before he will be cleared to play in an NHL game. Korac reports that Hitchcock said Perron will be a regular participant moving forward and will have no restrictions.

This is an extremely positive development, yet I find I’m more nervous now than ever before as I view this as Perron’s toughest test to date. Keep a close eye on this story as how Perron responds to a big hit from David Backes or one of the other big boys on the roster could be a clear indicator of when Perron might be cleared to play in a regular game.
