Steen, Jackman, Oshie All Return
Yesterday was April Fool’s day. Keeping that in mind, the Blues shouldn’t have been too surprised when they announced that not only TJ Oshie would be skating against Calgary last night, but he would be joined by Barret Jackman and Alex Steen that a lot of fans were chalking it up as misinformation. Thankfully, the Blues were being serious and the trio all did make a welcome return last night in a loss to the Calgary Flames.
Originally when the news broke several weeks ago that Steen had a high-ankle sprain and Jackman had a broken finger, it was expected that the two were finished for the 2010-11 season and would have to wait until 2011-12 to see live action again. Fortunately, both skaters recovered ahead of schedule and were both cleared to play.
Jackman’s quote in a recent article on STLToday really sums up who he is as a player, “I’ve missed too many games in my career already. Any game I can get into I want to play.”
Unfortunately, the trios returns to the lineup didn’t yield positive results as the Blues fell 3-2. As you’d imagine, Jackman and Steen were both given slightly lightened workloads, with Jackman’s checking in around 15 minutes and Steen’s just a bit higher at 16 minutes.
Just four more games remain on the 2010-11 schedule, and while they are about as important as next year’s preseason contests, it’s great to see two key members of the squad back out there. At the very least, their early return will allow them to close out the season in shape and used to game action, which should only make preparation for 2011-12 a bit easier.
