Andy McDonald Activated, Ready to Return
Andy McDonald has been activated from the IR and appears ready to return to the lineup, as reported by the official site of the St. Louis Blues. The site believes he should return tonight when the Blues take on the San Jose Sharks at the Scottrade Center. The Blues have recently seen Jason Arnott and Matt D’Agostini miss time which makes the timing of McDonald’s return all the more perfect.
Welcome back Andy McDonald.
McDonald has appeared in just three games in 2011-12, scoring two assists during his brief time on the ice this season. He returns after recovering from a concussion he received on October 13th against the Dallas Stars. He has missed the team’s last 51 games.
McDonald’s return really couldn’t come at a better time. Matt D’Agostini has been placed on the IR and the Blues are preparing to embark on their most difficult stretch of their schedule, with plenty of road games looming in the distance. McDonald brings fresh legs, veteran experience and most importantly offensive prowess to the lineup. At times the Blues have struggled to generate offense – an area McDonald should help in.
The front office has been pretty adamant that they are content with their roster and don’t envision making any major trades prior to the deadline on February 27th. McDonald’s return is like the Blues making a trade without having to give up any pieces in return. While we can all assume he might have some rust to work through, McDonald is clearly an upgrade and a great piece to add to the current puzzle.
