Blues Even Series with Two Goaltenders & Physical Play

Blues Even Series with Two Goaltenders & Physical Play

Game 2 featured just about everything a fan of the St. Louis Blues could ever hope to see in a game. They saw the Blues jump out in front early thanks to a blunder that saw San Jose score in its own net. Fans saw the Blues kill off three penalties while converting on one of their own. There were big hits, a broken team bench, local celebrities (Freese, Carpenter, Hull) in attendance and a brawl after the final horn that had to be seen to be believed. Read more.

Blues Fail to Capitalize on Opportunities, Fall in 2nd OT

Blues Fail to Capitalize on Opportunities, Fall in 2nd OT

After a dominant first period of overtime it appeared the Blues were one good bounce from taking Game 1 in front of a raucous Scottrade Center crowd. However, upon failing to convert on numerous chances in the first OT the Blues entered the second OT period sluggish and were caught napping, allowing the San Jose Sharks to bury the winner. The series still has plenty of twists and turns in store but you can easily chalk this up has a huge blow to morale and a huge missed opportunity for the St. Louis Blues. Read more.

Game of Moments – Blues Fall to Columbus 2-1

Game of Moments – Blues Fall to Columbus 2-1

Jackman and Crombeen

Hockey is a game of individual moments, most of which only take a second or two, that culminate in a full 60 minutes. For the Blues there were two specific moments that caused their demise in a tough 2-1 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. First, the Blues allowed Columbus to notch a goal literally as the first period expired. Second, the Blues were on the losing side of a review that caused their last gasp goal to be disallowed. Blues Return, Halak Stands Tall

Blues Return, Halak Stands Tall

Jaroslav Halak

Rust? What rust? The St. Louis Blues returned from the longest All-Star break for any NHL team and took a big 1-0 victory away from the Los Angeles Kings. Jaroslav Halak showed no signs of losing any momentum he had prior to the break, recording his 5th shootout of the season in an extremely impressive display. Read more.

Berglund Awakens, Blues Start Their Break

Berglund Awakens, Blues Start Their Break

Patrik Berglund

Earlier today I posted an article about Patrik Berglund’s struggles and how he has fallen well below the point-per-game pace we saw in 2010-11. I discussed whether a trade was a possibility and how any deal involving #21 would be a difficult one to execute. Well, Berglund responded. Something, potentially the article from earlier (One can dream), spurred Berglund on to his best and most impressive performance of the year as the Blues fell to the Penguins in a shootout. Now the Blues will enjoy some significant time off as the NHL takes its All-Star break. Read more.

Blues Fall to Detroit 3-1, Plenty Still to Learn

Blues Fall to Detroit 3-1, Plenty Still to Learn

Chris Stewart

The St. Louis / Detroit rivalry has reached a new level of intensity. The Blues fell to the Red Wings by a score of 3-1 on Monday night in a game that saw just how much the Blues still have to learn on their road to becoming a true threat in the West. It was an emotional, physical game that saw both sides lose their cool on a regular basis as the game ticked down. The Blues came out flying, disrupting Detroit in the first only to succumb to Detroit’s second and third period efforts. Read more.

Perron Impresses in Return, Special Teams Struggle

Perron Impresses in Return,
Special Teams Struggle

David Perron

After one period, David Perron’s return couldn’t have been going any better. The Blues held a one goal lead courtesy of Perron’s quick hands which we haven’t seen in any NHL action since November 4th, 2010. Unfortunately, the positives for the Blues ended there as Chicago rose to the occasion and brushed aside a dismal specials teams effort by the Blues. Read more.

Blues Amp Up Effort, Success Follows

Blues Amp Up Effort,
Success Follows

We knew they had it in them. In their first three games under their new coach Ken Hitchcock the Blues have done what all of us knew they could do and that’s play a consistent, spirited 60 minutes of hockey. The end result of the newly found hard work? Five points out of six and a new sense of optimism on the young season. Read more.

Halak Performs Well, Blues Still Stumble

Halak Performs Well, Blues Still Stumble

Jaroslav Halak

There’s been plenty of blame placed on Jaroslav Halak in recent weeks. A lot of it has been deserved yet other times, like tonight’s loss against the Minnesota Wild, the blame deserves to go elsewhere. In what was arguably his best performance in 2011-12, Halak was left out to dry as the cast of characters around him did him no favors. While Halak made quite a few big and timely saves, his teammates (the defenseman in particular) continuously turned the puck over, failed to clear the zone and allowed more than a few odd man rushes that costed the Blues two important points. Embarrassment in LA: Blues Fall 5-0

Embarrassment in LA
Blues Fall 5-0

Jaroslav Halak

There are games where there’s nothing to say and a ton to say all at the same time. Tonight against LA was one of those games. The Blues played another uninspired, sloppy game against the Kings and paid for it by a healthy margin. It’s the same story from 2010-11 just with a slightly different cast of characters. While you’re likely familiar with what’s plaguing this team, it’s time to break down what went wrong in LA and what’s been going wrong for the better part of the past couple seasons. Read more.
