The Kevin Shattenkirk relationship doesn’t look like it’s going to end well

The Blues and Kevin Shattenkirk were expected to go their separate ways at the 2016 NHL Draft. The draft came and went and Shattenkirk remained on the roster which was surprising to both the defenseman and his agent. As multiple teams around the league shake things up with some huge moves, the Shattenkirk relationship continues […]

Poll: Did the Blues get a big enough return for Brian Elliott?

The Brian Elliott trade was both unexpected and controversial. Elliott led the Blues to multiple playoff series wins (something no Blues goalie has done in years), but the team decided to move him to the Calgary Flames in an effort to save some cap room and to avoid a future decision in which they’d lose […]

Ready or not, it’s Jake Allen’s time in goal

The Blues have once again decided that Brian Elliott is not the answer in net. Now that Elliott calls a new team home, the spotlight is completely on Jake Allen whether he’s ready or not to take on the role. Shortly after the trade, Allen commented on the situation and his comments were pretty much what […]

The Blues’ disrespectful relationship with Brian Elliott comes to an end

Brian Elliott was an outstanding goaltender for the St. Louis Blues. Unfortunately, the team wasn’t particularly outstanding or respectful when it came to how they treated one of the best goalies in franchise history. Elliott was traded to the Calgary Flames during the 2016 NHL Draft in exchange for the 35th overall pick and a […]

Dmitrij Jaskin’s contract is a nice value for the Blues

The Blues still have a ton of questions to address this summer, but they already deserve some praise for how they handled Dmitrij Jaskin. The 23-year-old was going to be a restricted free agent following the 2015-16 season and though there was never any real doubt about whether he’d be back with St. Louis in […]

Mike Yeo will be the head coach of the Blues in 2017-18

The head coaching situation for the St. Louis Blues has been resolved. The team announced that they have hired Mike Yeo and Rick Wilson to serve as assistants to Ken Hitchcock in 2015-16 and that Yeo will step into the head coach role beginning in 2017-18.

David Backes is apparently selling his house

The St. Louis area isn’t too densely populated which makes it relatively easy to bump into Blues skaters around town. David Backes has called Clayton home for a while, but now it appears he’s selling his house which may indicate his future with the Blues might be about to end. Credit to the folks over […]

A look at the potential upgrades coming to the Scottrade Center

The Scottrade Center is in need of some updates and the St. Louis Blues hope the public will be able to help finance the renovations. According to the St. Louis Business Journal, the team believes the renovations will cost around $138 million and will include updates to concourses, the scoreboard, the cooling system for the […]

Frozen Notes turns 7 and change is on the horizon

Back on June 10th, 2009, I published the first post here on Frozen Notes. It wasn’t an introduction or even an explanation of what the site was all about. It was titled a “Cause for Optimism” and it looked at all of the things Blues fans could look forward to in the 2009-10 season. In particular, […]

Scott Stevens turned down an offer from the Blues

The St. Louis Blues have a couple openings at the assistant coach position now that Brad Shaw and Kirk Muller have left to pursue new opportunities. The team reportedly extended an offer to Scott Stevens, but Stevens turned down that offer and accepted a job with the Minnesota Wild. There’s no telling what the Blues […]

Blues should plan to start 2016-17 without Alexander Steen

Alexander Steen’s shoulder injury adds a new wrinkle when it comes to planning for the 2016-17 season. Kept a secret even after the playoffs ended, Steen’s injury required surgery and will keep him out approximately four to six months. Using some simple math, an optimistic return might be at the beginning of October while a […]

Report: Alexander Steen played through a severe shoulder injury

It’s always fascinating to learn about all of the injuries a team played through during the playoffs. The Blues had some injuries, but nothing too severe or noteworthy emerged during the exit interviews outside of a thumb injury to Scottie Upshall. However, a new report suggests that Alexander Steen played through a pretty severe shoulder injury. Nothing […]

Tarasenko’s comments prove the media made a lot out of nothing

Vladimir Tarasenko wasn’t great against the San Jose Sharks. Following the team’s loss, Tarasenko elected to avoid speaking to the media. On cue, the media pounced and tried to speculate about serious issues between Tarasenko and the Blues. The narrative seemed a bit nonsensical and was an extreme take on a player who was by far […]
