Will Ryan Miller sign a new deal to stay in St. Louis?
That's the question being asked by Blues fans just a few days after the club brought Miller and Steve Ott to St. Louis in exchange for Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart and a few other assets. After the Blues paid a steep price to get him, the attention is now on getting a deal in place which will keep Miller in the St. Louis crease for the foreseeable future.
When asked about this very topic by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Miller answered cautiously.
"I'm very open to it. But right now, it's more about the hockey. We're going to have a lot of time later on to feel that out. I think it's definitely a possibility."
The "very open to it" response is at least encouraging, but it's probably not as firm as some fans would like to hear.
For the Blues, Miller's future in St. Louis needs to be more than just a "possibility." It needs to happen. The team paid a hefty price for their goaltender and it'd leave the Blues in a desperate situation if the netminder was to serve as a rental and sign with a new team after 2013-14.
