The Blues have sent seven players down to the AHL: Ty Rattie, Jake Allen, Dmitrij Jaskin, Sergey Andronov, Keith Aucoin, Jani Hakanpaa and Joel Edmundson.
It would have taken something truly special for players such as Rattie and Jaskin to make the NHL roster. After the Blues announced they signed Brenden Morrow, Rattie, Jaskin and the others were punching their ticket to join the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.
Even without Morrow's signing, odds are it would have taken an incredible performance in camp and injuries to other players for any of these seven men to see NHL time. Aucoin knew he'd be heading down as soon as the Blues decided to pass him through waivers. Aucoin cleared waivers and stayed up with the Blues, but he knew he'd be heading down.
Will we see any of these players in the near future? Barring injuries, probably not. Allen is behind both Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott. Jaskin and Aucoin are stuck between a fourth line which is not only full, but will have to dump a player to make room for Morrow. Rattie needs time to grow his game. The AHL is a new test for him and it'll be interesting to see how he responds.
