UPDATE: Reaves needed surgery on his hand and will miss at least six weeks. Pretty disappointing news considering his original diagnosis. It looks like Magnus Paajarvi and Adam Cracknell will have a lengthy opportunity to prove themselves while Reaves is out.
Ryan Reaves will miss the next four weeks after breaking his hand against the Dallas Stars. Reaves engaged in a memorable fight with Brenden Dillon and apparently broke a bone in his hand during the scrap.
This is a big loss for the Blues. Reaves has been outstanding this season. Aside from all of his fights this year (most of which he has won), he has also been a dominant figure on the ice. He's delivered some crunching checks and played a role in the team's offense. Reaves has two goals and two assists through 22 games.
Ken Hitchcock commented on the injury:
"He hit that fella quite hard. I know he only played five shifts before he got hurt, but he had five really good shifts. We're going to miss him, but other guys are going to step up for us."
At least Reaves went out with a bang. Prior to his fight he dumped Valeri Nichushkin into the St. Louis bench.
While Reaves is out the Blues will turn to Adam Cracknell and Magnus Paajarvi. Neither will be able to fill the enforcer void left behind by Reaves, but they are solid options on the fourth line. Paajarvi has been improving with each game he skates in and Cracknell has been his usual feisty self during the games he has suited up for.
