NHL.com has released a series of articles about the St. Louis Blues in honor of their 30 teams in 30 days feature they've been running over the summer. One of these articles ranks the 10 best prospects in St. Louis and discusses which ones might compete for a job in the NHL in the very near future.
Who did the NHL rank as the team's most exciting prospect? Dmitrij Jaskin.
Here's the entire list courtesy of NHL.com:
1. Dmitrij Jaskin, RW
2. Ty Rattie, RW
3. Joel Edmundson, D
4. Jani Hakanpaa, D
5. Jordan Binnington, G
6. Jordan Schmaltz, D
7. Petteri Lindbohm, D
8. Niklas Lundstrom, G
9. Max Gardiner, C
10. Colton Parayko, D
As you might have noticed, Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz and Jake Allen are no longer considered prospects according to this list.
What do you make of this list? There are plenty of points you could debate, but it's fair to place Jaskin and Rattie at the top of the list. Both players will compete for a spot on the NHL roster in training camp, but it's doubtful either will be able to crack the roster barring injuries to other players.
Rattie is arguably the most exciting prospect in the organization due to his outstanding numbers in the WHL, but he still has to prove he can produce in tougher, more competitive leagues. If you remember the case of Brett Sonne, gaudy numbers in the WHL don't always translate to the AHL or the NHL.
