Jinxed? Blues are one of the favorites to lift the Cup in 2014

Before the NHL even released its schedule for the 2013-14 season, various writers, analysts and betting sites were predicting which team would hoist the Cup in 2014. It's always interesting seeing which team gets all the love before the first puck of the season drops.

As it turns out, the Blues are one of the teams receiving plenty of love this summer. If you're superstitious or worried about a jinx of some kind, turn back now.

I've already discussed some of the odds the Blues have from various sources around Vegas and the Internet. Bovada, a site known for its online football betting and sports odds, lists the Blues at 12/1, the fourth highest ranking behind Pittsburgh, Chicago and Boston.

The odds themselves took some, myself included, by surprise. Check out the top half of the odds list.

Notice how the Blues are ahead of the LA Kings, the team which booted them out of the playoffs the last two seasons? It's also interesting seeing how high Edmonton is ranked, but that's a topic for a different time and a different site.

The story doesn't end there. As mentioned above, some writers have revealed their early Cup picks. Matt Larkin of The Hockey News believes the Stanley Cup Final will be between the Blues and Rangers with the Blues coming out on top. It's an interesting pick not only because the Blues are the big winners, but because the Rangers are in the mix too.

Other analysts have kept their final picks quiet, but several have indicated that they expect a deep run from the Blues. One analyst even deleted his Tweet which picked the Blues as Cup winners. Read into that as you will.

What should we make of this? Not much, unless you believe in a jinx of some kind. The Blues still have to go out there and get the job done. Still, it does show that the Blues won't be flying under the radar. The odds might be a big generous, but the Blues have a talented squad and the rest of the league knows it.
