Chris Porter placed on waivers

It looks like Chris Porter is the odd man out for the St. Louis Blues. The team placed Porter on waivers Saturday, signaling that the battle for the fourth line has been decided. Assuming he clears waivers, Porter will report to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.

The Porter news means that the St. Louis roster is now complete.

UPDATE: Porter has cleared waivers and will report to the Chicago Wolves.

Why was Porter the odd man out? It might all come down to where he skates and the fact the Blues are deep on the left side of the ice. Jeremy Rutherford believes Adam Cracknell's versatility may be the deciding factor.

These types of decisions are difficult. Cracknell and Porter impressed last year on the CPR line, but the addition of Maxim Lapierre and the surprising signing of Brenden Morrow forced the Blues into a difficult spot. Someone had to go.

The CPR line as we know it is gone. While it's kind of strange considering how successful the line was on a consistent basis both at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs, the Blues believe their new pieces (Lapierre, Morrow) are an upgrade. Offensively, the Blues are in a much better spot than they were in 2012-13.
